GSM is a small IT support firm with consultants working in multiple IC agencies (CIA, ODNI for example) in the Northern Virginia area. The 2012 IC-CAE GIS Scholarship to attend the ESRI User’s Conference in San Diego, CA 23-27 July application is now open ( https://survey.vt.edu/survey/entry.jsp?id=1327498768324 ) and will close on 20 Feb 2012.

This application is for VT IC CAE students with GIS backgrounds and a desire to use such skills in the IC to attend the ESRI Conference this summer.

This is an incredible opportunity to attend the premier GIS conference and learn how such analytic tools are used in the IC and within the National Security arena.  This program is open to all Virginia Tech students who are US citizens. You need to have a background in GIS to apply and attend the conference.

The program will pay air fare, hotel, and meals, as well as registration for the conference.  There will be over 400 sessions to attend to learn the latest in GIS technology, as well as the  opportunity to meet with US Government entities which use GIS, and the vendors who make the tools and applications.

NSA Information Session Feb 14

NSA will be at the CSRC Spring Career Fair and the Career Services Connection Fair Feb 13-14 and will have a dedicated information session for IC CAE students.

EE, CpE, CS and related majors are most needed, but the visitors have broad experience an could also provide some guidance to other students interested in NSA.

Times and locations will be posted on the Scholar site when they are available.

The Intelligence Community Scholarship application is closing this week and we will be updating the IC-CAE Scholars and Associates list. All current/continuing IC-CAE Scholars and Associates must reapply.  You can do this by either submitting an application to the IC Scholars program:

APPLICATION DEADLINE FEBRUARY 15, 2012

This application is for the 2012 ICCAE study abroad scholarship to the Chinese Language Institute (CLI) in Guilin, China (http://www.studycli.org/). This incredible opportunity includes 4 weeks in China with over 20 hours a week of Mandarin instruction. Based out of Guilin, the program also travels to Beijing and Shanghai. This program is open to all Virginia Tech students who are US citizens. There is no restriction on year or major, except that you must officially be a student during the time of the trip. Students can obtain academic credit for the program through their home department on a case-by-case basis.

The program will pay the tuition cost for the study abroad program and the air from Virginia to destination. Additional change to travel are at the student’s expense. Meals not included in the tuition cost of the program are at the student’s expense. An additional stipend may be awarded that can go towards food/incidentals.

Course Purpose & Description

The purpose of this seminar type course is to introduce students to the theory and practice of intelligence analysis. The course will focus on the use of the target-centric approach to intelligence analysis. Multiple case studies will also be used to familiarize students with the application of structured analytic techniques. Topics under examination include: the development of U.S. intelligence; the U.S. intelligence community; the U.S. national security process; the intelligence agenda; (national, international, and transnational issues) the intelligence process (collection and analysis); sources of intelligence information; evaluating and collating data; collection strategies; problems with the intelligence process; presenting analysis results; intelligence operations (counterintelligence and covert action); ethical and moral issues in intelligence; cooperation with foreign intelligence services.
